What a bright day!
I woke up into a shiny morning with a pleasant breeze filling the room at 8 am. I had been having dull mornings recently. With a bowl of cereal or a dry toast, and always in a hurry to catch the ferry. So you can guess it was such a joy to start the day with an early summer wonders today.
After washing my face I got on to my sneakers, and went out to buy newspapers. Omg! The smell of newly baked breads was irresistable! So I turned back home with a beautiful loaf of 'white' bread, a bottle of fresh orange juice. Even only these two things deserve a good set of breakfast table, don't they?
So I prepared a wonderful breakfast meal for the family with varieties of jams, cream, cheeses, organic tomatoes, olives with extra virgin olive oil & thyme, and of course fried eggs which I hadn't had for breakfast for ages! When the table was ready at the balcony, mum & dad were awake, too. We had a lovely breakfast together. It's been a very long time since we had breakfast together recently. And this was the first day of 'balcony fiest' season! (We spend meal times, and nights at our balcony with a relaxing view of the Marmara sea, and Prince Islands every summer)
Well... To sum up it was a nice way of starting the new way of life to me. Thanks to the Sun His Majesty!
However I must confess that a cup of tea also makes a day as well as Sun! Breakfast is a meal with a wide variety of teas which I can choose to brew in other words. In fact I do enjoy brewing tea for myself during the whole day. It's great fun to me to smell different kinds of scented or unique teas, to prepare the cup with a tea-ball, and to smell the brew before tasting for a long time till the odour fills my lungs!
I prefer scented black teas for breakfast in general. But today it was a 'green' morning, and my choise was Chinese green jasmine tea. Maybe green jasmine tea sounds like a 'night' tea with its' oriental notes inside, however I experienced that it can also make a good start of the day with it's refreshing aroma.
On the other hand green tea contains high levels of antioxidants, and many minerals. Tea is also the only source for a remarkable amino acid called L-Theanine, which is known to reduce anxiety, improve mood and lower blood pressure. Tea contains several B vitamins that are water soluble and quickly release into the cup as well as riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, pantothenic acid, magnesium, potassium, manganese, fluoride, carotene, vitamin C, iron, zinc, chlorophyll, and calcium. Drinking 2 cups of tea per day is said to provide the same bone health benefits as 2-3 servings of dairy. As well as reducing the risk of cancer, and cardiovascular diseases, tea -and especially green & white teas- is good for healthy bones, and teeth.
So... This morning I brewed a cuppa of health for my dear Susan's "Beautiful Bones" event for National Osteoporosis Awareness Month! I want to thank Susan for her thoughtfulness on such a critical, and important issue. And inviting all women to be aware of osteoporosis for a beautiful & health future & generation!
Here is my calcium-rich cuppa of green tea brewed with love and patience!
Green Jasmine Tea
Tea for one
2 teaspoons of jasmine scented green tea leaves (full leaf is prefered)
250 ml (1 cup) of fresh water
Spring-handled infuser (tea-ball)
* Boil the water in kettle only for 10 seconds to prevent it losing the oxygen.
* Let it cool for 30 seconds.
* Put 2 tsp of green jasmine tea in your tea-ball, and put it in your tea cup.
* Pour hot water over the tea-ball, and leave it in the cup.
* Brew for 3 minutes, and take the tea-ball out.
* Sweeten with honey, or sugar if you like.
* Enjoy your cuppa sip by sip, and through the day!
